Ibiza's Most Iconic Experience

Es Vedrà Sunset Cruise

A 413-metre limestone pinnacle rising from the Mediterranean, shrouded in myth and magnetism. The sunset here is not just a view — it is a rite of passage.

The Legend

The Most Magnetic Place on Earth

Es Vedrà is a 413-metre uninhabited rock island off Ibiza's southwest coast, and it is one of the most mythologised places in the Mediterranean. Ancient Greek sailors believed it was the island of the Sirens from Homer's Odyssey. Local fishermen speak of compass needles spinning wildly in its shadow. Scientists have measured electromagnetic anomalies around the rock that remain unexplained.

What is beyond dispute is the visual power of this place. As the sun drops behind Es Vedrà on a clear evening, the rock becomes a black silhouette against a sky of molten gold and crimson. The light changes minute by minute — amber, copper, rose, violet — until the first stars appear and the rock dissolves into the darkness of the sea.

Watching this spectacle from the deck of a private yacht, glass of Ruinart in hand, the warm Mediterranean breeze on your skin — this is the quintessential Ibiza experience, and the one that stays with you long after you leave the island.

The Route

West Coast Sunset Route

The classic Es Vedrà sunset cruise follows Ibiza's dramatic west coast, passing hidden coves and dramatic cliffs.

16:00–17:00

Departure: Marina Ibiza

Board your private yacht at Marina Ibiza or Marina Botafoch. Champagne welcome as you motor out past the harbour walls and turn south along the coast.

A gentle cruise back along the coast under the stars, arriving at Marina Ibiza as the town comes alive for the evening.

Mythology

Myths & Legends

Homer's Sirens

In the Odyssey, Homer describes an island where enchanting Sirens lured sailors to their doom with irresistible song. Many scholars identify Es Vedrà as this island, noting its position on ancient Mediterranean trade routes and the treacherous currents that surround it.

Magnetic Anomaly

Es Vedrà is said to be the third most magnetic point on Earth, after the North Pole and the Bermuda Triangle. Compass needles reportedly deviate near the rock, and local fishermen have reported electronic equipment malfunctions. While scientific verification is limited, the electromagnetic readings around the rock are genuinely unusual.

Tanit's Sanctuary

The Carthaginian goddess Tanit — protector of Ibiza — is said to have made Es Vedrà her sacred sanctuary. The island of Es Vedranell, just beside Es Vedrà, was reportedly used for ritual offerings. Archaeological evidence of Phoenician worship sites exists on nearby Ibiza.

UFO Sightings

In 1979, a TAE commercial flight reported an unidentified luminous object near Es Vedrà that forced an emergency landing in Valencia. The incident was officially documented by Spanish aviation authorities and remains one of Spain's most famous unexplained aerial phenomena.
